Physio Resistance

Physio Resistance
All I want to do is run?

I had a knee operation (arthroscope and lateral release) about 7 weeks ago now. As of 3 weeks ago, I’m allowed to run.

I was never a runner due to the pain in my knee.

I went for a run last week for 1km and I felt great. The next day, I did 2km and didn’t want to stop! I enjoyed it and wanted to keep going. I stopped because I didn’t want to damage my knee.

I want to now alternate gym and running. At the gym I cycle.

Plan:
Mon – gym (+15 min cycle at low resistance 60-70rpm)
Tues – run 2-3km and karate
Wed – gym
Thurs – run 2-3km and karate
Fri – karate
Sat – rest
Sun – comp training for karate

At karate, I’m doing no contact fighting at all plus minimal leg work.
At gym, other then cycling, only doing 2 exercises for legs, rest arms

Is this too much too soon? Even though the physio said it was ok, she didn’t say how much would be too much. I do see her again tomorrow night I think.

She’s the boss, so ask her what you can do. If you see a physical therapist, they’d also have a tremendous amount of knowledge and they can set up a program for you.

You’re not going very far, with only 2-3 km a run so you won’t do much damage. Anything over 10 kms, you might want to discuss with your physio.
